Here is my first shot at an etheree. This was actually surprisingly hard to write. Each line increases by 1 in syllable count to make a total of 55 syllables (hence the numbers).
Dedicated to my late great-grandmother Katie, who is one of my namesakes.
- shine
- glimmer
- be a star
- take it all in
- here’s to likely chance
- look up there, ‘cause baby
- you’re up there shining, beaming
- stars are meant to blaze, you glitter
- I almost thought I wouldn’t get burned
- all beautiful things must come to an end

Our Friendly Disillusions
Fall down the rabbit hole
into a Wonderland of dreams
tread carefully, child
they will raze to the ground
it is a maze
of lost hope and dreams
only a fool's paradise

What the Cat Said to Me
The greatest wonder is that we can see these trees and not wonder more.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
What the cat said to me, the cat said to you.
"Look at the sky, so pretty and blue," the cat said to me, the cat said to you.
"Watch as the world goes by, so young and true," was what the cat said to me, what the cat said to you.
Feathers and trinkets and balls of yarn,
the cat said nothing as it walked into the barn
Years have gone, and the cat is no more.
Instead of a cat, there is a dog.
There are no more trinkets and feathers and balls of yarn.
Bones and toys and treats line our barn.
What the dog told me, the dog told you.
What the cat said to me, the cat said to you.
"Look at the world there is so much to see, this is the beginning, anything can be,"
The cat and the dog are no longer here, but there advice always falls on my needy ear.
Partially inspired by Shel Silverstein's Listen to the Mustn'ts and my dog, Max Power.
